Pattern is written in US terms.
MATERIALS
- 3.25 mm crochet hook
- 25 g / 100 yds cotton or bamboo fingering yarn (more than half skein)
- Tapestry needle
GAUGE: 13 sc x 23 rows = 2 inches
ABBREVIATIONS
- ch - chain
- ea - each
- dec - decrease (sc2tog; sc 2 together)
- inc - increase (2sc in same st)
- rep - repeat
- sc - single crochet
- st(s) - stitch(es)
INSTRUCTIONS
- POUCH: Slip knot, ch 9. Sc in top loop of 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across. Sc again in last ch. (9 sts)
- Continuing around other side of piece, sc in bottom loop of ea ch across. Sc again in last ch. Oval should be 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches across. (18 sts)
- Working in the round, sc in ea st, until length of piece is 11 1/2 inches. After every few rounds, slip fan hinge-end first into piece and check fit. To accommodate fan's widening girth and prevent case from becoming snug, inc at ea end of oval. My fan required 5 sets of inc.
- STRAP: Working in rows, sc halfway across top edge. * Ch 1, turn, dec in first st, sc across, dec in last st, rep from * until row is reduced to 10 sts.
- * Ch1, turn, sc across, rep from * until length of strap is 7 inches (or desired length).
- FINISHING: Sc down side of strap to smooth ragged row edges, continue around opening of case and up other side of strap. Cut yarn, leaving long tail for sewing. Fold end of strap over 2 inches (or as will fit your belt), thread tail onto tapestry needle, and sew to create belt loop. Weave in ends.
