Alternatively, if you don't want the loop size to be permanent, make a few inches of chain to thread through stitches and make a bow. Weave in ends.

Pattern is written in US terms.

MATERIALS

  • 3.25 mm crochet hook
  • 25 g / 100 yds cotton or bamboo fingering yarn (more than half skein)
  • Tapestry needle

GAUGE:  13 sc x 23 rows = 2 inches

ABBREVIATIONS

  • ch - chain

  • dec - decrease (sc2tog; sc 2 together)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. POUCH:  Slip knot, ch 9. Sc in top loop of 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across. Sc again in last ch. (9 sts)

  3. Working in the round, sc in ea st, until length of piece is 11 1/2 inches. After every few rounds, slip fan hinge-end first into piece and check fit. To accommodate fan's widening girth and prevent case from becoming snug, inc at ea end of oval. My fan required 5 sets of inc.
  4. STRAP:  Working in rows, sc halfway across top edge. * Ch 1, turn, dec in first st, sc across, dec in last st, rep from * until row is reduced to 10 sts.
  5. * Ch1, turn, sc across, rep from * until length of strap is 7 inches (or desired length).
  6. FINISHING:  Sc down side of strap to smooth ragged row edges, continue around opening of case and up other side of strap. Cut yarn, leaving long tail for sewing. Fold end of strap over 2 inches (or as will fit your belt), thread tail onto tapestry needle, and sew to create belt loop. Weave in ends.

Cell Phone Belt Pouch

The costs of assembling your garb for a renaissance faire, LARP, or cosplay event can really add up. Making your own crochet cell phone pouch is an appropriate and affordable way to keep your phone handy and hidden. Instructions are written to fit iPhone 6s but it's easy to adjust for your own phone size.

Pattern is written in US terms.

SIZE:  Body of pouch is 3 inches wide x 6 inches high which fits iPhone 6s (adjust pattern to fit your phone dimensions). Strap from top of pouch to semicircle flap is 3 inches wide x 7.5 inches long. Semicircle adds about 2 inches to strap length.

MATERIALS
  • H / 8 / 5 mm crochet hook
  • About 66 yards of any #4 / medium / worsted cotton yarn
  • Tapestry needle

GAUGE:  8 sc x 8 rows = 2 inches

ABBREVIATIONS
  • ch - chain
  • ea - each
  • fsc - foundation single crochet
  • inc - increase (2sc in same st)
  • rep - repeat
  • sc - single crochet
  • st(s) - stitch(es)

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. SEMICIRCLE FLAP:  Magic circle, ch1, 4 sc in circle. (4)
  2. Turn, 2sc in same st and ea st across. (8)
  3. Turn, * sc in same st, inc in next st, rep from * across. Tighten circle. (12)
  4. Turn, * sc in same st and next st, inc in next st, rep from * across. (16)
  5. Turn, * sc in same st and next 2 sts, inc in next st, rep from * across. (20)
  6. Turn, * sc in same st and next 3 sts, inc in next st, rep from * across. Cut yarn. (24)
  7. BODY OF POUCH:  Fsc to a length that fits the width of your phone (about 11 sts for iPhone 6s).
  8. Working in the round, sc around perimeter of foundation row, adding 1sc at each end to form an oval shape.
  9. Continue sc around, forming an oval tube, until phone fits completely inside tube (about 23 rows for iPhone 6s).
  10. BELT STRAP:  Flatten piece. Working in rows just on half the sts, sc from one end of opening to the other. * Turn, sc in same st and ea st across, rep from * until strap is about 8 inches (or desired length). Cut yarn leaving a tail for sewing. Thread tail onto tapestry needle and use whip stitch to sew together flat edge of semicircle and edge of strap.
  11. FINISHING:  To smooth ragged row edges and the join of semicircle to strap, sc down side of strap, continue around semicircle and up other side of strap. Cut yarn.
  12. Thread a length of yarn onto tapestry needle. Fold strap over front of case so that tip of semicircle reaches halfway down length of case. At 2 inches from the fold, sew across to form belt loop. Weave in ends.
